As I see it – Kohler has Turned the Toilet into a Piece of Art
Currently one of my favorite “As I See It” ads are the fourth series of Sacha Waldman. Sacha was born in Milan, Italy, raised in South Africa, spent four years living in London, and now lives in New York. His ad features a glamorous Hollywood Mom who’s sneaky son (hiding behind the left door) used the Purist Hatbox Toilet to hide one of his Mom’s favorite hats. Perhaps if she had put away the hat, this wouldn’t have happened! After all, there are over 60 hat boxes in the photo that could have been used. Why is the toilet in the middle of the room? Kohler wants us to believe this toilet would work just about anywhere in the room. Although toilets are normally installed against a wall, if you install this toilet in your bathroom, it possibly should be the center of all attention, starting at $4,095 in white. This toilet gets a lot of attention, including an installation at New York’s Bryant Park. The toilet was debuted at Fashion Week in New York City, in February 2005. The Purist Hatbox K-3492 toilet was temporarily installed in restrooms Bryant Park, where most shows take place. The Hatbox has a clean and smooth design, and opens the door to all possibilities for making a design statement anywhere the toilet is installed, residentially or commercially. I went and tested a Hatbox toilet installed in a home. It is smooth and quieter than I expected, even though it uses a pump to assist in flushing. The pump requires a 120V, 15A, electrical receptacle protected by Class A GFCI. It comes as a Comfort Height, Elongated Bowl. At first it seems odd and I took a second look at it before figuring out the best way to use it, since it has no visible tank to it. Every one piece toilet I’ve ever seen, gives a feeling of having a tank attached to it for the water, however the Hatbox did not give me the security of sitting on a bowl with a tank. It definitely takes getting used to the security of having a tank attached, even though you would never lean against a tank, when sitting on a toilet. The Hatbox also includes a Quiet-Close toilet seat to eliminate the dropping of the seat on the bowl and possibly cracking the bowl. What do you think of the Kohler Purist Hatbox?
