Kohler Basalt specialty enamelA powder coating, usually a combination of clay, quartz, feldspar, silica and color pigments, applied to an iron casting. When exposed to high temperatures, the coating melts and fuses to the casting, creating a glass-like surface. Basalt, named for the grayish igneous stone used in therapeutic hot stone spa treatments, offers a rich blending of cool gray values.

Basalt follows the same proprietary manufacturing process pioneered for Black ‘n Tan, Sea Salt, Cane Sugar and other texture colors only available on Kohler Cast Iron. Basalt is available on select Kohler Cast Iron products for the kitchen and bath and coordinates well with several existing colors in the Kohler color palette. Basalt is not a solid color but more of a grainy color.
