Concealed Trapway - Today's Word of the Day

Is your trap exposed? Many don’t know the difference from an expose trap to concealed trap, and most don’t care.

Many don’t like the design and refer to as an intestine, and say it’s much more difficult to clean.   I have inserted a pictures below the first showing a concealed trapway and second with a exposed trapway. For those who aren’t sure what we’re talking about.

Kohler defines Concealed Trapway as a “feature (that) provides a clean transition at the back of the toilet base, hiding the trapway for aesthetic and cleanability purposes.” 3653_trapway_2

Most bathrooms are designed with the toilet in a nook or separate room effectively keeping the trap out of the way and out of sight, making either the exposed or concealed difficult to clean. You really cleans this anyway and if you do, how often do you clean the trap way?

A concealed trap way toilet will cost about 20 to 25% more than the same exact toilet with an exposed trap way.
