Kohler's Dual-Flushing System

What is dual-flushing? Many thought it was flushing twice or three times or four times. This was the attitude of the public, plumbers and the plumbing distributors trying to accept the changes of the National Energy Policy Act Of 1992.

Most of the comments at the time were, “we’ll all have to flush twice to get the waste out of the toilet, now we’ll really be wasting water.” But there was no backing down from the changes enacted to save one of our most sacred resources – water. This was a huge change for all, and although there were many complaints along the way, in the end we have many good products that work well and have developed a lot of new technologies.

One of these is Kohler’s exclusive dual-flush technology results in significant water savings without sacrificing performance. The technology provides users with an exceptional combination of water savings and powerful performance to consistently remove light and bulk waste with just one flush. It allows users the option of selecting one of two water levels each time they flush the toilet.

Operated by a user-friendly, two-button actuator the user can flush either 1.6 gallons or half that amount – 0.8 gallons. The latter flush option, if used routinely to remove light or liquid waste, could save a household of four between 2,000 and 5,000 gallons of water per year versus standard models, which routinely flush 1.6 gallons of water.
